It's always very scary when something you are so familiar with changes with little or no warning. My friend Trina brought this new Starbucks logo change to my attention today. At first I was upset about the change until I stared at the logo for a while. It's pretty genius for BBDO/Starbucks to not only update the logo but take away the company name leaving just the bold looking symbol. Now my attitude is that 'it's about time' for Starbucks to have a recognizable design like the swoosh, golden arches or apple. This logo is a good transition for them to expand their products from just coffee.

Kobe and LeBron's Christmas Kicks
Watching the Lakers vs. Heat game today on Christmas, I noticed some of the players were wearing neon shoes. It turns out they are advertising for tomorrow's launch of the new Kobe (left) and LeBron (right) Nike shoes.

Gilt the Dealership
I've always been a fan of Gilt, the website with the "flash sales". I'm not sure if it's because I can get a $500 sweater for $200 or the thrill of knowing you have to buy it before the sale is over or the item is sold out. So today when I was browsing through the list sales I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw this:
Can you imagine impulse purchasing a car online or even from your phone, which is where a lot of people are shopping from these days? This brand and particular lower end model is perfect for this sort of PR and sales. I work in advertising for a luxury car brand and this definitely makes me wonder- what's next?

Art Basel
I was sniffing around for some Art Basel buzz and found the contest "reGeneration2 - Tomorrow’s Photographers Today" by LACOSTE and MUSÉE DE L'ELYSÉE.Dedicated to young photographers, the event was held at my favorite hotel the Delano(which deserves an entire separate post). The concept behind the winning campaign is as interesting as the captivating visuals. Click on the link above to read more about it.

Holiday Ads
I love holiday ads. Maybe even more than Superbowl ads, but don't tell anyone that.
First of all, the Saks Fifth Avenue building ad in NY is amazing. It's a 3-D projection on the building using video mapping.
Quite different but hilarious (in my opinion) none the less, is the Target 2-Day Sale TV spot. A lot of people think it's annoying but I think the lady they casted is such a perfect fit and too funny. Below is a link to the montage.

Gamer for a Day
Last night I went to the Call of Duty Black Ops launch party at Hangar 8 in the Santa Monica Airport. I wasn't quite sure why they had marines playing video games and guys in Best Buy uniforms, Kobe flying in on a helicopter and Metallica performing. After learning more about the game and its demographic and seeing the TV spot on today's Ad Age Daily, it was was a bit more clear. Here's the TV spot; Call of Duty Black Ops. Cool CG and I'm sure Kobe will create a stir associating himself with violence even if it is marine influenced. The spot comes out on Sunday during the NFL so keep your peepers peeped.
